Welcome to Liminal Space Creative
This is a digital newsletter and creative archive offering genre-bending short fiction and poetry that flatly refuses to conform. I write across Dark Fantasy, Gothic Horror, Science Fiction, Comedy, and Literary Fiction. I often slip between these worlds within a single piece to tell the rawest story possible.
Rarely is the story you finish reading the one you started. I do not telegraph or signpost these shifts. They just happen organically.
In game design, one of the ultimate holy grails is emergence, where unpredictable and memorable moments rise naturally from a player’s choices rather than a pre-written script. While a static written story cannot truly be emergent in the way a video game is, I try to craft my narratives so they feel emergent.
I write so that the plot feels as if it is unfolding organically in real-time for the characters. I keep the narrative lens hyper-focused on their immediate perspectives. At the same time, I throw away the expected playbook and the pre-delineated structures we are so used to. My hope is that this translates to a more visceral, raw, and genuinely surprising experience for you as a reader. You will never know exactly where a story is heading, or how on earth we are going to get there.
My Pledge to You
Every finished piece I publish here will always remain 100% free.
Unless, of course, some publishing company or film studio offers me a ton of cash and buys up the rights. I am not so committed to the craft that I would turn down a big, sweaty palm full of corporate billionaire money. Until that highly unlikely day arrives, it costs you nothing to read my work.
What You Get as a Free Subscriber
The Finished Work: Direct, ad-free email delivery of all completed short stories, flash fiction, poetry, and creative articles.
Zero Spam: No marketing junk, no pushy sales pitches, and absolutely no corporate clutter. Just raw creative writing sent straight to your inbox.
The “Anti-Paywall” Tier (Please Read Before Upgrading!)
I have officially turned on Substack’s paid subscriptions. However, I am flatly asking you not to pay me.
I only activated the paid tier to play nice with Substack’s backend algorithms and gain access to their gated layer of extra visibility features. This publication is a creative outlet and a hobby for me. Not a career.
If you have spare money to spend on digital subscriptions, please go find a small, independent author who is actively trying to build a career on here and subscribe to them instead!
But if for some crazy reason you still want to support me
If you absolutely insist on throwing a coin my way anyway, here is how it works:
The Permanent Discount: I have forced an automatic, permanent 80% discount on the checkout screen for new subscribers. It drops the price to a literal micro-payment of CA$1.60/month (or CA$8.60/year). I won’t let you pay full price!
The Messy Reward: To thank anyone who does subscribe, I will be posting 1 or 2 behind-the-scenes concept drafts every month. These are unedited, raw streams of consciousness and glorious walls of verbal diarrhea. They might be good for a laugh, but they are definitely not worth your hard-earned money!
Thank you for being here, for reading, and for exploring the messy gray areas of humanity with me.
